Readings Reflection
Based on the readings so far, I feel that I have a deeper understanding of airports and air travel. Airport travel is an essential aspect of our modern lives, connecting people and cultures all across the world. From booking flights and navigating security procedures to managing layovers and luggage, there are many details when it comes to traveling by air. Each of these touch points contributes to the overall satisfaction and convenience of a customer’s journey. One of the key takeaways from these readings is that airports are not just spaces for people to travel, but also spaces where the psychology of travelers is carefully considered. Design, layout, signage, and amenities are all tailored to create a positive and efficient user experience. For example, the use of clear signage, well-designed waiting areas, and easily accessible amenities like restaurants, shops, and lounges can enhance the overall impression of an airport that a customer has. Another key takeaway is that these readings talked about the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in airport design. Ensuring that airports are accommodating to passengers that come from diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, and families traveling with young children is essential for creating a positive experience for all.

Insights
- Showcasing local works of art and culture will often lead to increased spending and leave favourable impressions on the visitors as airports are the first and last destinations on their journeys. Highlighting the airport’s unique history, location, and values will also lead to the creation of emotional connections. Airports have unique opportunities to showcase the identity and culture of their located region. From architectural design inspired by local elements to the use of regional cuisine and art, airports can infuse a sense of place into their branding, making them memorable and reflective of the local culture.
- Digital and Interactive Branding should be one of the main focus in modern day airport branding as in today’s digital age airports should extend their branding into the digital realm. Interactive touchscreens, mobile apps, and possibly immersive experiences should all carry the airport’s visual identity and messaging while also help to speed up the often boring waiting times at airports.
- Airport branding is a dynamic process that goes beyond logos and slogans. It involves creating a positive and memorable experience for passengers, reflecting the unique character of the airport, and adapting to the demands of the aviation industry and travelers. A well-executed airport branding strategy can help airports thrive and become more than just travel hubs but memorable destinations.
How Might We..?
Problem Spaces
- lack of brand identity of airports, more about airline brands
- lack of culture and meaning in airport branding
- airports are the travel hubs for their own regions!!! should stand out with special traits of the region and educate people about that area
- lack of brand identity from start to end journey of airport experience
